So we finally bit the bullet and called the sheet-rockers! a few weeks ago we spent the Saturday cleaning out and sweeping the downstairs, and getting ready in every way for the dry wall to be put up. This is what it looked like just three weeks ago!
This picture below is the ceiling in our master bedroom, in the 'nook' window-seat area. we call it the 'juicer', for obvious reasons. This is pre sheet rock of course:
And yesterday we painted all the walls with primer! It's so amazing to see how far we've come in such a short time. We've worked our buns off and are so sore.. but it's so nice to finally be moving forward on it. Those of you you've been here know that our basement is not really a basement. It's actually our main level. The front door is on this level. We originally just finished the entry with doors closing out all the unfinished areas and it has been like that for a few years. But we are tired of only having one bedroom, and the thought of not being ready when the adoption agency finally calls is a tad scary too.. so we are excited to get 'er dun!
Here's the master bedroom tub above.
And the master bedroom with the sheet-rocked, primed 'juicer'.
Kirk fashioned himself this nifty pair of stilts. He sunk some screws into his old shoes and fastened them to some buckets.. then clomped around all over so he could reach the ceilings. Sweet. It worked much better than having to climb up and down the ladder. What a smarty pants.
Here's the 'kids' room. There's a lot going on on this wall. There's the loft that Kirk built up above, with a window. Then a bathroom and closet. After Kirk sprayed the walls and ceiling with the paint, Kyle (Kirk's brother) and I took turns following behind him with the roller to smooth it out. It felt like my arms were about to fall off by the end of the day. It took us about 7 hours but we got it all done and now we can check that off our list! Below is a little snippet of Kirk's fancy moves on his fancy stilts.

How fun...love the ceiling work! You got your self a handy man! Mine can do that too-but living on base, we'd probably get kicked out of the service!:)
